A Better Way of Learning

We utilize a wide variety of curriculums, texts, novels, units, and field trips in order to best engage students in their learning. Lightkeeper Academy takes the unique approach to learning, as it utilizes both curriculums designed for a homeschool environment, and project-based learning. In addition to core subjects, students will learn through experiences with a variety of project-based, multi-disciplinary units that involve cooperative learning amongst various grade levels.

In order to achieve learning at greater depths, Lightkeeper Academy will offer a variety of experiences at and away from our home site. Field trips are an integral part of our curriculum as they let us expand on the learning environments and offer hands-on experiences that we would not be able to achieve in the classroom. Students can expect to be on a minimum of one monthly Friday field trip. When students are not on Friday field trips, they will be given time to pursue individual passion projects and work on fine art skills. We believe that education involves both a mastery of core academic skills and allowing students to pursue topics they love.

As a core part of our mission, we strive to focus on the whole child and give them the tools they need to be successful, well-adjusted members of society. We aim to infuse grit into the daily mindset of each student, building their courage, resolve, and strength of character. Through our small class sizes and all-encompassing environment we foster personal drive, passion, and perseverance, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to flourish and reach their full potential. We plan to accomplish this through daily activities that will reinforce personal virtues such as honesty, hard work, responsibility, kindness, and empathy.

As our school grows and changes, our curriculum may change. One of the many benefits of our small student-to-teacher ratio is that our curriculum can be changed or adapted at any time to best challenge each group of students. We truly believe in our mission of teaching the whole child and do not subscribe to a one-size fits all methodology.
